Your favorite trucker hat, dad hat, or snapback baseball cap not only brings the style but also keeps the sun and sweat from your eyes – which leads to stains and odor. Luckily, you can clean and deodorize most hats in a few easy steps with OxiClean™ Versatile Stain Remover.
1. Check colorfastnessBefore you clean your hat, read the manufacturer’s care label inside the hat and check the fabric for colorfastness. To do this, moisten a paper towel or clean white rag with warm water, and press onto an inconspicuous area of the hat, such as inside the band. If any of the color comes off onto your towel, do not submerge the hat in water.
2. MixFill provided scoop in OxiClean™ Versatile Stain Remover to line 2 to 4 per gallon of water and mix (follow instructions on the package) until dissolved. Try using a sink, laundry tub, or bucket.
3. SoakSubmerge your hat in the OxiClean™ solution and swish around. Soak for at least 15 minutes or up to 6 hours to help brighten colors and counter dinginess.
4. Wash or RinseIf your hat is machine washable (check the inner label or manufacturer's website for instructions), wash on a low-spin or delicates cycle with cool water. If your hat cannot be machine washed, rinse it thoroughly with cold water.
5. Air DryRemove your hat from the washer, reshape (try putting on a pot or bunching up a towel inside to keep the rounded shape) and all it to air dry. Do not tumble dry snapbacks, trucker hats, baseball or dad caps as that can cause them to lose their shape.
Do not use on wool, wool blends, silk, silk blends, leather or fabrics labeled dry clean only.
If your vintage hat has a paper or cardboard brim, don’t submerge it in water. Use a solution of OxiClean™ Versatile Stain Remover to spot clean stained areas on your hat.
1. Mix Mix 1 teaspoon OxiClean™ Versatile Stain Remover and 1 cup warm water until dissolved.
2. BlotTest an inconspicuous area like inside the band first for colorfastness. Dip a clean white cloth or a soft bristled toothbrush into your cleaning solution and dab onto the stained area of the hat. Scrub gently to remove stains.
3. WipeUsing a clean cloth or sponge dipped in clean cold water, wipe the area on the hat.
4. Air DryReshape your hat and allow it to air dry. Do not tumble dry or place in direct sunlight.
Always test OxiClean™ Versatile Stain Remover on a small area before using. Read your hat’s label and follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Do not use on wool, wool blends, silk, silk blends, leather or fabrics labeled dry clean only.
If your knit cap or beanie can be submerged in water or machine-washed (check the label to be sure) then a pre-soak in OxiClean™ Odor Blasters™ will help remove oils and odors your beanie has absorbed from your head and hair.
1. MixMix 1 scoop of OxiClean™ Odor Blasters™ Versatile Stain Remover Powder per gallon of warm water and mix until it is completely dissolved.
2. SoakSubmerge your beanie in the OxiClean™ solution for 1 hour. Heavily soiled items may take longer and can be soaked for up to 6 hours.
3. Wash or RinseWash on a low spin or delicate cycle if your hat is washing machine safe or thoroughly rinse the beanie with cold water. Take care not to wring or twist as this may damage the fibers.
4. Air dry Lay the cap flat on a drying rack or a towel to air-dry overnight. Avoid tumble-drying most knit items as they may shrink or get misshapen.
Always test OxiClean™ Odor Blasters™ on a small area before use. Read the cap’s care label and follow manufacturer’s instructions. Do not use on wool, wool blends, silk, silk blends, leather or fabrics labeled dry clean only.
